Activities

The school offers  a  very  wide  range  of  extra-curricular activities.

 

  • GAA: We have a very long and proud tradition regarding Gaelic games, winning the football, hurling and camogie championships on a regular basis. Girls football was recently introduced in the school. We contestedand won the final in November’08. In recent years we have won the schools’ football championship, including “three in a row” in ’06, ’07,’08 and were narrowly defeated in ‘09. The hurling team won the Division 1 final in ’08 .
  •  ATHLETICS: We participate in the Primary Schools’ Competition and have had  some very successful years.
  •  CRICKET: Cricket is coached each week and we play challenge games with other schools. We have won the Dublin Schools’ competition, on a number of occasions.
  •  TAG RUGBY: This game is played during the summer term.
  •  SOCCER: We enter teams in the five-a-side competition and this year the boys’ team won the 5-a-side final.
  •  BASKETBALL: The senior classes play in-house leagues.
  •  SWIMMING: Swimming lessons are available to classes from First to Sixth if sufficient numbers want to participate. A block of ten lessons is what we normally arrange. You will be informed of the cost, each year.
  •  ORIENTEERING: We recently participated in the Leinster Schools’ competitions, winning both individual and team events in ’08, ’09and’10.
  •  RECORDER: Recorder is  taught throughout the school.
  •  SPEECH & DRAMA lessons are available on Wednesday afternoons. Details are available from Ms. Moorehead.
  •  IRISH DANCING lessons are available on Friday afternoons. Details will be available in September.
  •  CONCERTS: Class concerts are organised at Christmas, in most cases, but may also be held at other times of the year.
  •  CHOIR: We have an excellent school choir which performs at church services associated with the school.
  •  CYCLING: Navan Roadclub provides training and other cycling activities ,in the school, on Monday evenings.
  •  TOURS: As well as the traditional school tours, outings, to places and events of educational interest, are also organised.
  •  VISITORS; Visits by authors, illustrators etc. are organised annually.  Last year Oisin McGann spent a day in the school.
